My First Semester: COMPLETE!/Here I come Pittsburgh!

Listening to: SHINee-Replay
(you wouldn't know them, they're Korean)
Mood: Excited

Wow, I can't believe I missed all of April! Things somehow sped into fast motion, as I had a four-week class that basically took up all of my time, as well as starting my new job. It was a seminar on cold-water coral reefs. It was a bit difficult for me at first, as I have no coral background, unlike some students, and my professor was just spitting out all this information that I tried to understand as best I could. However, one of my friends, Joyce, was in the class, as well as classmates from my previous classes, so I felt better about it once we delved into some topics. Joyce, her friend Stephanie, and I formed a group for a presentation on deep-sea coral reproduction and growth. I spent over 10 hours just reading research. The presentation was actually a bit more intense than I expected. We were certainly prepared, and our professor wasn't harsh or anything, but we were interrupted for him to ask questions, and he asked a ton of questions after, turning our presentation from 30min to at least 45! However, you don't have to worry, because he said no one had to worry about grades in the class, so I'm pretty sure I got an A! We also had John Reed, one of the top deep-sea coral reef researchers in the world come talk. He was pretty cool-he showed us a video of him going down in this contraption that was basically like a glass ball. It kind of reminded me of a gerbal's toy....

As for my job (what, this is like the 14th job I've had since I got down here) I really like it. I am an assistant circulation librarian for the health professionals at school. Basically a medical library. Other than checking out study rooms and some books, all I do is my homework and reading. It's awesome. I have the night shift, so I haven't been getting home until 2am, but it's super quiet and relaxing, as it's just me and the same coworker. It's really nice, and the med students, despite my previous stereotype, are for the most part extremely nice. I'm getting to know some of them, as they practically live in there, although I can't pronounce their names, as most of them are either Asian or Indian! Anyways, this is my final job, as it has a tuition benefit, so I am staying put. Whew!

As for other news, nothing really has happened. Not sure if I mentioned my other new roommate, Fran, from Switzerland. She's doing a 1yr internship at the OC, and she's lots of fun! She showed me where she lives-it's gorgeous. She made Rick and I some Swiss food, brought us Swiss chocolate, and can speak Swiss-German. So yeah, we like her! Her friend from England, Rhi, came to visit, and she was cool too, so it made the house lively for once! Fran and I went to this gym workout class called Circuit Blast the other night, and we almost died. There were about 32 stations where you had to workout for a minute, and let me just say that if you can imagine fit guys in the class breathing heavy, you can imagine what we looked like. I wanted to cry by the end, but it actually was pretty fun! I just needed to catch my breath for 30 min. afterward. Today, I am still sore. Obviously I am out of shape!

On a final note-I'm flying home to Pittsburgh tomorrow, and am super excited to see everyone! Can you believe it-I'm actually looking forward to crappy weather! :)
